Incisors are the sharp teeth at the edge of your smile. They are primarily called upon to work with your lower premolars to bite into tough foods. If one is knocked out, extracted, or lost to untreated tooth decay, it can have a number of ramifications. Beyond the impairments on your ability to bite off food, a missing incisor can mar the appearance of your smile and even cause you to slur your speech. In time, the alteration in structure can even cause orthodontic complications with the surrounding teeth.

To prevent these problems and restore the full function of your mouth, Dr. Robert Doyle might recommend a dental bridge restoration. This is two crowns fused together with a third representative tooth in the middle. It is mounted on a pair of abutments that are formed by the two closest neighboring teeth.

It generally requires two separate appointments for Dr. Robert Doyle to completely install a bridge. At the first session, they will examine the two neighboring teeth to make sure they are completely healthy.

Dr. Robert Doyle will then use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from the two neighboring teeth on each side of the void. This leaves behind a pair of abutments that will later be anchor points for your new bridge.

An impression will then be made of the area, which will be sent to our dental lab. This will serve as a guide for the technicians when custom making your final bridge. Once this is done, temporary crowns will be secured over each abutment to protect them.

When your new bridge is ready, Dr. Robert Doyle will call you back in for a brief second appointment to install it. Once the dental adhesive has fully cured, your new bridge will restore the missing incisor for many years to come.
