When you lose a tooth to severe tooth decay, extraction, or other treatment-based means, it can have an impact on more than just your oral function. If the tooth was in your smile, it will certainly affect your appearance and could potentially alter the clarity of your speech. Without timely restoration, the loss of structure in the area could cause orthodontic complications as the neighboring teeth slowly react to the void.

There are several dental restoration solutions offered at Complete Dental Care. One of the most common ways to restore a missing tooth is to install a dental bridge.

This is a replacement tooth that is fused to a pair of crowns on each side. It will eventually be anchored in your mouth on abutments that are formed from the core of the two closest teeth.

To create the two abutments, Dr. Robert Doyle will use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from the two closest teeth. A detailed impression will then be made of the abutments and any corresponding teeth. This will be sent to our dental lab where your new bridge will be made.

Then, temporary crowns will be cemented over each abutment to protect them while the dental lab technician works to produce the new bridge.

You will need to come back for a follow-up appointment when your bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed and your new bridge will be cemented in place over the two abutments.
